The Associate of Insurance (AINS) Certification

Earlier this year, I started working in the *exciting* world of insurance wooo. I’m working on getting a certification for Associate in Insurance (AINS). As my exam will be in the upcoming months, I will use this blog to teach you (well, actually me) about insurance!

I signed up for a course and the exam on The Institutes. The requirements for the AINS certification are as follows:

  1. Complete the core course – Master Insurance Basics
  2. One concentration course
  3. One elective course
  4. Complete the Ethical Decision Making in Risk and Insurance course

I have already completed the Ethics course and may or may not cover it. I will cover the other required courses of my choice in upcoming blog posts. They will be linked here as I complete them. I am also adding the dates I pass the exams because it makes me feel accomplished. 🙂

  1. Core: AINS 101: Increasing Your Insurance IQ (passed exam on 10/18/22!)
    1. Why Do We Have Insurance?
    2. How Do Insurers Succeed?
    3. How Does Underwriting Work?
    4. How Do Insurers Handle Claims?
    5. How Do Insurers Reach Customers?
    6. What Goes Into an Insurance Policy?
  2. Concentration: AINS 102: Understanding Personal Insurance (passed exam on 12/14/22!)
    1. Why Do People Need Insurance?
    2. What’s in a Personal Auto Policy?
    3. What’s in a Homeowners Policy?
    4. What Other Policies Do People Need?
    5. How Is Personal Insurance Evolving?
    6. What Are the Key Personal Insurer Roles?
  3. Elective: AINS 103: Exploring Commercial Insurance (passed exam on 12/16/22)

Update 1/28/23: I’ve been busy in the past months and didn’t get the chance to update this! I passed all of my exams (yay!), but unfortunately do not feel the need to write down notes for the rest of this series, so I will be discontinuing it. Thus, that wraps it up. If anyone desperately wants to me to take notes on this, I could. But let’s face it, who the hell is reading this random blog post about insurance? 😂
