Well, I haven’t written anything here for three months. Not because I didn’t want to, but mostly because I’ve been extremely busy throughout the months of October, November, December, and to a lesser extent, January. So much for my one-post-a-week goal, eh?
What have I been up to? The gist of it, well it’s in the title – work, move-in, and holidays. The details, if you care, follow.
I had moved to a new team at work in October. They’ve been keeping me busy, but I do enjoy working with them so far. I’m learning quite a lot and am finally beginning to feel like I’m not just the new girl on the block anymore, and that I know what I’m doing and what my duties are for the most part.
I’ve also been spending most of November and December studying for (and passing!) exams for some certifications. As of December, I am a certified Amazon Cloud Practitioner. I also passed my AINS 102 and 103 exams, and since I’ve already fulfilled the other requirements, I now have an Associate of Insurance designation. How useful will that be? I have no fucking clue. Unfortunately, I probably won’t be finishing my AINS series due to this reason, as there is no more personal need to take notes on these. And if I’m going to write about something, the last thing I want to do is write more about insurance.
Besides work, I’d also reached a huge milestone and moved in with my boyfriend in late October. Hi, Max. I know you’re reading this. 🙂 It’s been nearly three months since we’ve moved in, and our place is still a mess. I currently have unbuilt furniture strewn across the living room, and he has two giant trash bags of clothes to sort out. And then we still need to clear out Box Mountain in the corner of our dining room. Still a lot of work left to really settle in, but it’s coming along!
And of course, November and December are also the months of holidays. My boyfriend and I hosted Thanksgiving dinner for my sister and out-of-town friend this year. I was eating Thanksgiving leftovers for two months after (yuck, I’m gross, I know lol.) And this year I celebrated my first real Christmas and Hanukkah! Growing up, my parents celebrated Christmas by dragging me along to Las Vegas so my dad could gamble while I begrudgingly went along with what everyone else wanted to do. But this year, I experienced my first Christmas tree, my first presents under the tree, and my first kiss under a mistletoe. 😉
Anyway, it’s January now, and I’m still mostly just busy with work. I made a 10-hour drive to Lansing, MI to hang out with Max while he’s working at his travel job, so I’ll be here for the rest of the month. Once we’re back home, I plan on making a little bingo sheet to encourage myself to actually pursue my hobbies and goals. Details of that will come in a future post.
I’m thinking of making this blog a little more personal so I’ll be encouraged to post more. Instead of just using it to write down my notes on whatever I’ve learned, I’ll use it to share little tidbits of my life every once in a while. These posts will be tagged with #life and #personal.
Anyway, I have work in a few hours and need to nap because I woke up inexplicably at 3:00 am and couldn’t go back to sleep. Good night.
